Introductions

Allow me to introduce myself

My name is Tia, I am 26 and I am a recent college graduate (BA in Psychology). I work for a 4-year institution in California.
It's a long and complicated story on how and why I ended up in Northern California from Southern California. However, the short, and less tearful version, is that I wanted a a quality education.

My short stint in admissions and eventually working for a special program on campus made me realize there are so many resources for families and students that I wasn't doing justice to my field by keeping all the information within the small office I worked for. So here I am, getting the word out in the hopes that it will help someone  get one step closer to achieving their dream in obtaining a degree (as debt-free as possible) and eventually discovering what they're passionate about, beyond that fight for a piece of paper and a graduation date.

So what will this blog offer?
  1. Tips and resources for high school students (even middle school students) on getting a head start on their college education. Some of these include: scholarships, summer enrichment camps, useful websites, tutoring services, etc.
  2. Tips and resources for current college students. These include: realistic tips, helpful writing strategies, online math tutoring, YouTube class tutorials (there really are some good ones out there), and of course scholarships.
  3. Tips for families. This includes all families and all tax brackets. It's a difficult time in this economy, but that doesn't mean that your education has to suffer because of it. Applying for college is stressful for not only the student but the parents. I saw it first hand working in admissions and I hope a post or two help to keep our dedicated parent's blood pressure down while they tackle recruitment and the college application season.
  4. Scholarships. You've heard it probably 100 times, but I will say it again. There are 1,000s of scholarships that are available to students!! I hope to bring some new and fresh ones to the surface and get students some free money in the process!
  5. Undocumented students. Now, this is a very touchy subject no matter what political side you swing on. My personal philosophy is that if a student wants to get educated and they put forth the effort to do so, I will provide them with the resources to do it. Therefore, politics aside, I serve all students.
  6. Foster Youth. I am a former foster youth and my expertise is within the foster youth community. Foster Youth issues are barely scraping the surface and I hope to give some light into opportunities for these youth.
  7. Finally, trending career service(s), advice, useful articles on things that, I hope, will help you  to land a job and actually love what you're doing in the process.
This blog is a work in progress so bare with me and any suggestions would be amazing. Thanks for reading and I look forward to this new journey I have laid out for myself!

Till next time! TA-TA FOR NOW!
